FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BerdsCarnival Presents 3 Pointz Brooklyn: Patrol Game
A 34-Mile Patrol Through Territory That Offers No Guarantees
Brooklyn, NY — April 18, 2026
BerdsCarnival (Maraya Lopez), a New York City–based artist, will patrol 34 miles around Brooklyn’s perimeter on Saturday, April 18, 2026, as part of Dumbo Open Studios and the final part of their multi-year project, 3 Pointz Brooklyn. The patrol lasts 14–16 hours and uses Brooklyn’s edges and crevices to activate overlooked urban spaces, connecting public geography with inquiry.
The patrol/game starts at 70 John Street in DUMBO and extends outward: east toward East New York—where the map ends—then south to Coney Island, and back. In theory. The route does not guarantee passage. Whether it completes the circuit depends on forces beyond the artist's full control.
Armed with Wi-Fi, a shopping cart, and a neon “No Color Game” sign, BerdsCarnival patrols the borough’s outermost edges—the zones a city accumulates but rarely acknowledges—scanning for subtle differences and eerie commonalities between neighborhoods. The patrol questions who moves freely through the city, who gets stopped, and what it costs to cross from one side of a boundary to another.
Coney Island in winter was the first place in New York that felt familiar—desolate like the Texas plains, wide open in a way the city almost never is. The artist found it by getting lost. East New York is the unknown at the end of the line. Dumbo is the touchstone where the artist explores in their studio. The patrol is also an effort to hold still long enough to grieve—in a world that doesn’t pause for it, that keeps transmitting whether you’re ready or not.
Audience Participation
From 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM ET during DUMBO Open Studios, the patrol broadcasts live into the studio at 70 John Street—and the game cannot operate without an audience. Visitors and remote viewers are not just spectators; they are the key to the experience. As agitators and guides, they can send BerdsCarnival pausing to find cracks in the pavement, double back, or pause mid-stride with a single prompt. Good directions, bad directions, nonsense directions: all of it becomes part of the game. The patrol moves forward regardless. It has no choice.
Game Prompts
1. Find a crack.
2. Show me blue.
3. Take a wrong turn.
4. Find a war zone.
5. Make a border.
